What is an aluminium patio door?

Aluminium patio doors offer smooth operation, slim sightlines, and excellent thermal performance. Because aluminium is stronger than uPVC, frames can be much slimmer, meaning more glass and more light. We supply aluminium patio doors from trusted manufacturers, including Smart Systems, AluK, and Sheerline, which are thermally broken as standard and precision engineered for effortless sliding.

Slim Frames, More Glass

Aluminium's strength allows for much slimmer frames than uPVC, maximising the glass area and letting natural light flood into your home.

Smooth and Effortless to Use

Precision-engineered rollers allow the panels to glide smoothly along the track, even on larger, heavier doors

Secure as Standard

Every aluminium patio door we supply includes a multi-point locking system as standard. What's more, PAS 24 specification is available where required.

Low Maintenance, Long Lasting

The powder-coated aluminium finish holds its colour and stays looking sharp year after year. A wipe down every now and then is all it takes to keep your doors in great condition.

Aluminium Patio Door Options

Every range comes in its own choice of colours and finishes, from smooth whites and realistic woodgrain foils to powder-coated and heritage shades. Download the brochure below to see the full palette, or ask us to bring samples to your free survey.

With large panes of glass, the glass itself does much of the work of keeping your home secure. Choose toughened or laminated security glass.

Toughened Safety Glass

4–5× stronger than ordinary glass

Heat-treated to make it 4 to 5 times stronger than ordinary glass. If it does break, it crumbles into small, blunt-edged pieces rather than sharp shards.

Laminated Security Glass

Tested to EN 356

Pilkington Optilam™ bonds the panes with a tough PVB interlayer that holds the glass in place if it is broken, slowing down break-in attempts. It also absorbs UV, helping protect furnishings from fading.

FAQs

What is the difference between aluminium and uPVC patio doors?

The main difference is the frame material. Aluminium is stronger, which means the slimmer frames give you more glass, more light, and a more contemporary look. uPVC patio doors are the more cost-effective option and suit most homes well.

Aluminium patio doors tend to suit modern properties, extensions, and homeowners who want a more architectural finish. Both options are available from us. Get in touch and we’ll help you decide which is right for your home and budget.

How do aluminium patio doors slide?

The panels run along a track and glide open without much effort, even on larger doors. Some systems, like the Sheerline range, use a lift-and-slide action: the panel lifts slightly as you open it and drops back down onto the seal when closed, which gives a tight, draught-free fit.

All the patio doors we supply are built to stay smooth and reliable for the long term.

Are aluminium patio doors secure?

Yes. All the patio doors Osborn’s supplies come with a multi-point locking system as standard, engaging at multiple points along the frame when the door is closed. High performance weather seals also help prevent forced entry.

The PAS 24 enhanced security specification is available upon request, and all the systems we use have been tested to meet current security standards.

How energy efficient are aluminium patio doors?

Our aluminium patio doors are built for strong energy efficiency. All the systems we supply use thermally broken aluminium profiles, meaning the inner and outer sections of the frame are separated by a non-conductive barrier that significantly reduces heat loss.

The Sheerline range uses Thermlock® multi-chamber technology for particularly strong thermal performance. Combined with double or triple glazing, all our patio doors meet current building regulations for energy efficiency.

What guarantee comes with an aluminium patio door installation?

Every patio door installation we carry out is covered by a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through QANW, protecting both the product and the workmanship.

As a CERTASS-registered installer, your installation will be fully compliant with building regulations, and you’ll receive a certificate on completion, which is useful to have on record and easy to pass on when you sell.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I can't recommend this company enough. They are absolutely brilliant. We had a crack in our mirrored splashback and was original told by another company that it would be a really complicated and expensive job. Found Osborn glass and they quoted 4 times less and got the job done in less than an hour! Really great communciation and would highly recommend.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Osborn fitted our new front door a couple of years ago and we've been really pleased with it. But what's been even more impressive is their after sales service. Nick, the installation manager, has been brilliant with following up a minor teething problem we had and with other matters. We've recommended Osborn to friends and they've also had a similar experience to us. This is a company that in our experience does not just take the money and then leave you - they follow up and provide great customer service.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was recommended to Osborne Glass by a friend and I was delighted with them . Importantly I am thrilled with the quality of their work which has transformed my kitchen. What set them apart though was the fantastic service from Tony and his team . As well as doing a superb job they were all just so great to deal with . They would be my first choice on similar projects in the future .

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I can't recommend this company enough! I had a complex mirror repair on a wardrobe door that was chipped, and I was really worried about it. The mirror had a triangle shape with diagonal edges, and I needed it to perfectly match the other mirrors on the door. I had reached out to other companies, but most told me the job was either impossible or would cost more than the wardrobe itself.

Tony, the manager, was incredibly helpful on the phone, reassuring me that they could do the job and match the existing mirrors perfectly. He was very responsive to emails, and I really appreciated his attention to detail. The service was top-notch from start to finish. The guys who collected and delivered the door were not only professional but also super nice and kind. They even helped me mount the door back onto the wardrobe, which was a lovely touch.

The repair was flawless, and the new mirror matches the original ones perfectly. The whole experience was seamless, and I’m beyond happy with the result. The price was very reasonable for the high-quality work provided. If you need mirror repairs, these are the guys to go to! Professional, reliable, and truly skilled. Thank you, Tony and team!
