Functional Glass

Our fire rated glass helps contain flames, heat and smoke, giving your home or business valuable extra protection. Resistance ratings of 30, 60, 90 and 180 minutes are available, helping to slow the spread of fire and give people more time to leave the building safely. To perform as intended, fire rated glass must be installed as part of a certified system, with frames, seals and fixings tested to work together.

Fire rated glass is commonly used in doors, internal screens, stairwells, corridors and communal areas, where Building Regulations or fire safety plans call for a set level of protection. Depending on the product, it can resist the passage of flames and smoke, and some types also limit heat transfer to the side away from the fire. We’ll help you choose the right glass and rating for your project.

For a more traditional look, Georgian wired glass is also available in fire rated options. The embedded wire mesh helps hold the glass together if it cracks in a fire, while its classic grid pattern suits period properties, communal areas and older commercial interiors. It can be made to your exact requirements and is available in a choice of finishes.

Made-to-measure glass shelving brings a sophisticated finish to homes, retail spaces and commercial interiors. Shelves are cut to size and reinforced with laminated or toughened glass, supplied in thicknesses from 4mm up to 19mm. Low-iron glass can be specified to reduce the green or black cast visible at the edges of ordinary glass, giving a cleaner, more luxurious result.

Thickness is chosen around the span of the shelf and the weight it must carry. Common options are 6, 8, 10 and 12mm, with 6-8mm suited to small or decorative shelves and 10-12mm to longer spans or heavier items. All shelves are manufactured from toughened safety glass, which is far more impact-resistant and, in the unlikely event of breakage, shatters into small, blunt fragments to reduce the risk of injury.

Finishes include clear, low-iron, frosted and tinted glass, with polished edges, bevels, radius corners and bespoke shapes such as triangles, circles, curved shelves and panels with cut-outs or notches. Complementary fittings are available, including hinges, pivots, handles, locks, patch fittings, shelf brackets and stand-offs, which are  suited to display cabinets, bathroom and kitchen storage, retail merchandising, bookshelves and wine racks.

A glass surface is ideal wherever colour or decoration needs to be combined with durability, hygiene and a non-porous finish. Custom splashbacks are glass or mirror sheets, made to measure, decorated as required and then permanently bonded to the wall. Panels can be considerable in size, shaped from templates and cut to allow for electrical sockets, extractor fans and other obstacles, with 6mm glass or mirror the preferred manufacturing standard.

Splashbacks can be painted in any RAL, Pantone or BS colour, including 24 standards, and paint samples are available to view in the showroom. Low-iron glass removes the slight green tint found in regular glass, and toughened glass is available where something sturdier is needed. Sheets are produced in almost any size, with opaque colour on one side and a solid safety backing on the other.

Mirror splashbacks are made from durable glass with a mirror backing that is moisture, steam and water-resistant, giving a modern look that opens up a space and increases brightness. Clean them with a glass cleaning product and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh materials that damage the finish. Toughened glass is heat-resistant and works perfectly behind a hob, and panels can be installed over a tiled surface provided the edges are sealed against moisture.

A glass balustrade is a safety barrier made from glazed panels, fitted along staircases, balconies, terraces, landings, mezzanines or decks to prevent falls, often with minimal framing for a clean, modern look. Both framed and fully frameless structural glass options are available. Because balustrades work indoors and out, they suit gardens, pool and patio surrounds, restaurants, offices and internal dividers equally well.

Panels are made from laminated and toughened safety glass, designed to meet UK standards. The glass is strong under pressure and, if damaged, either stays intact or breaks safely, so effective fall protection is maintained. Low-iron glass can be specified to reduce the green and black appearance around the panel edges, lending a clearer, more luxurious look to the finished balustrade.

Finishes include clear glass for maximum transparency, frosted or tinted glass where privacy matters, and coloured or textured glass for design variation. To get the detailing right, a timber test model is built from your specifications first, so small adjustments can be made to your liking before manufacture begins.

Toughened glass shower screens, doors, cubicles and wet room panels add a modern look to a bathroom while bringing in more space and light, whether the room is being designed from scratch or upgraded. Frameless showers are manufactured using 10mm toughened glass as standard, so accidents such as slips are far less likely to result in serious injury.

Every screen is made to measure and installed by specialists, covering all glass components for walk-in showers and units in difficult spaces, including lofts and under-stair cupboards. Screens are supplied with fittings in chrome, stainless steel or brass. Custom decoration is available through sandblasting or painting, alongside self-cleaning glass, colour, privacy panels, shelves and a selection of other accessories.

Shower glass has been supplied across London since the 1960s, covering homeowners renovating or moving in somewhere new as well as commercial clients in industries such as gyms and restaurants. An in-house graphic designer can work your ideas into the final product, and installation assistance is available where it is needed.

A custom glass tabletop is cut to the exact measurements and requirements of your design, whether the aim is to protect a cherished wooden surface or to create a striking new centrepiece for a dining room. Pieces are made from high-grade materials, including tempered and toughened glass, to ensure durability and safety, and are available in various thicknesses to suit the application.

Customisation options cover plain, coloured or tinted glass, and etched, sandblasted or patterned decoration. Edges can be finished as bevelled, polished or sandblasted, tailoring each piece to precise specifications. Glass tabletop protectors are made to the same standard and can be matched to a preferred style, giving a durable, easy-to-clean surface for busy areas such as coffee tables and large dining rooms.

Designs pass through an in-house graphic designer, so bespoke ideas can be worked up before manufacture and each piece is custom-made without compromising on quality. Every job is priced individually according to glass type, size and fittings, and can be taken as supply only or as a full supply and installation service.

UV glass bonding joins glass edges and surfaces with a transparent adhesive that sets, or cures, when exposed to ultraviolet light—the source of the name. It is also possible to bond metal fittings to glass. The process joins all kinds of glass and mirrors clearly and seamlessly, without an obvious glue line, and is typically used to produce shelving units and furniture, although there are certain limitations where weight bearing is concerned.

Bonded work includes glass containers, furniture, artworks, showcases, bookcases, display aids and serving displays, as well as fixing shelves to mirrors, splashbacks and shower enclosures. In production, suction-cup clamps hold the glass panels, usually toughened glass with polished edges, in position; the adhesive is run into the joints to be bonded, and once cured, the joint is entirely invisible.

The edges of bonded glass can appear green if low-iron glass isn’t used. For some pieces, the tint adds an aged effect which clients like, but where a clean, crystal-clear finish is wanted for a display or showcase, low-iron glass removes it. Work can be supplied only or supplied and fitted, depending on the project requirements.

Laminated glass, also known as safety glass, is a panel made of two glass plies bonded together with an interlayer between them. The interlayer is made from a special type of plastic, typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB), which renders the panel shatterproof. It is supplied cut to size in a variety of thicknesses, with 4.4, 6.4, 8.8 and 10.8mm held in stock for domestic and commercial projects alike.

Safety comes first: because the glass is shatterproof, no dangerous shards are left behind if an accident occurs, making it well suited to family homes with children. Security is the second benefit: the strength of the panel makes it almost impossible to break, and where breakage does occur, the interlayer holds up under pressure, making forced entry extremely difficult. The thickness also reduces heat transfer from the sun, so air conditioning is needed less often.

Applications range from doors and windows to glass stairs, skylights, glass roofs, aquariums, animal enclosures, and display cabinets holding high-value products such as jewellery; vulnerable shop displays, shelving, and flooring benefit too. A white diffuser option is offered in 6.4mm alongside clear variants; 10.8mm is the most common choice for shopfronts, and most clients select laminated glass for secondary glazing.

Toughened glass, also known as tempered glass, is made by a thermal process: the glass is rapidly heated and then quickly cooled, compressing the surface and creating compensating central tension. The result is a panel that is far more durable and resistant to scratches and scuffs than standard glass, and much harder to break, increasing security benefits for both residential and commercial projects.

Because toughening requires specific processes, panels cannot be cut or modified after strengthening, so the glass is cut to size beforehand and measurements and design ideas are agreed up front. Panels come in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses, and you can achieve specific colours or finishes, including a white diffuser option that scatters light.

Toughened glass is highly versatile. Typical projects include glass balustrades for a modern balcony or outdoor dining area, glass shelves to increase storage or showcase valuable products, frameless glass showers as part of a bathroom upgrade, and glass tabletops for an office or contemporary home. We have produced bespoke sizes and shapes for contractors and homeowners since the 1960s, including intricate architectural work.

Glass sneeze screens give staff, customers and clients a protective physical barrier that instantly reduces the risk of contamination, without impairing the ability of your team to do their best work, and installation is quick. The reinforced glass protects against more than just germs: it means accidents are far less likely to result in smashing or further injury, so the space is demonstrably safer.

The current recommendation for businesses is glass at a minimum of 6mm, and as the screen grows in size, so too will the thickness required. Clear glass is the best option for speed of manufacturing and delivery; coloured glass is available in a variety of shades, though manufacturing takes a little longer. A logo can be included on the screen if it is specified at the time of order.

Jobs can be taken as supply only or as supply and fit. Rough wall and space measurements, the glass type and any additions, plus drawings or pictures of the area, all help to specify the work accurately before manufacture begins.

Moveable glass partition screens provide an easy to clean protective barrier between staff and customers, while still allowing face to face interaction. Ideal for offices, hairdressers, restaurants and shops, they can be moved around to suit your space, with a built in safety brake for added security. Because light flows straight through the glass, you keep the bright, open feel of an open plan room.

Screens come in multiple finishes, in either a base supported or clamp design, with discreet fixings to suit any interior. Desktop partitions work on the same principle, using anti slip stabilising fittings to hold glass or acrylic screens firmly in place. The fittings take 6 to 10mm toughened or laminated glass, creating a barrier of up to one metre high depending on the fittings chosen.

For extra privacy or a personal touch, you can sandblast partition screens to your requirements. Sandblasting creates a frosted finish that obscures the view without blocking light, and it’s a great way to add company logos, booth numbers or table numbers, making it ideal for offices, bars and restaurants.
